Existing alpha → web delivery

Bring a ProRes 4444 alpha master to the web

Keep your editing master. Prepare a separate transparent delivery for your website.

Check your alpha master

Confirm the codec, not just the MOV extension

Apple documents alpha support for the ProRes 4444 family. That capability is optional: a ProRes 4444 file can still be opaque. AlphaPublish checks the supported MOV profile and decoded alpha rather than trusting its name. ProRes 422 does not supply this existing-alpha workflow. Export a supported 4444 master with alpha and confirm the composited result over another background in your editing tool.

Separate import from ProRes export

This guide imports an existing MOV master to create a website delivery. The separate ProRes 4444 export feature converts an eligible paid AlphaPublish result back to an editing format and has its own eight-second limit. That export limit does not change the checker’s 30-second input limit or the 15-second one-time publishing limit. Choose the route that matches the file you already have and the output you need.

Check the actual file before buying

Open the Transparent Video Checker and upload your exported master. The existing-alpha path accepts WebM with VP9 alpha or MOV with ProRes 4444, up to 100 MB, up to 30 seconds, with each dimension below 4000 pixels. A MOV extension alone does not identify its codec or prove transparency. A file that stores an alpha-capable pixel format can still contain only opaque frames. Keep the original editing master locally; this upload is a temporary working copy, not an archive. You can inspect the initial report without signing in. Saving it, preparing a delivery and buying publishing require your account.

Read alpha detection without mistaking it for device testing

The checker reads media properties and decodes a bounded set of frames. It distinguishes visible transparent content from opaque content, missing alpha, entirely invisible frames and unsupported media. Samples cannot prove the contents of every frame. Review the whole loop yourself, especially fades, hair, fast edges and frames at the start and end. Browser rows describe format and delivery rules; they are not evidence that your uploaded file has played on a particular phone. A high readiness score cannot override missing verified transparency. Re-export a failed master rather than buying a plan in the hope that packaging will recover a discarded alpha channel.

Choose a web delivery size and a useful poster

Choose Hero for a larger page visual, Inline for content within a section, or Small Overlay for a compact presenter or mascot. Custom lets you set maximum width from 160 to 1920 pixels and a frame-rate limit from 12 to 60. These are delivery limits, not a request to enlarge a small master or manufacture extra motion. Standard packaging creates a transparent VP9 WebM without audio. Keep the original audio separately if your project needs it. Default website motion is muted and looped. Check edge detail at the actual displayed size; a much larger delivery can increase transfer and decoding work without making a small corner visual more useful.

Verify the fallback, then approve the prepared version

A poster is part of the delivery. You can let packaging choose a sampled transparent frame, specify a frame time, or upload a transparent PNG or WebP. Uploaded posters must be under 10 MB, below 4000 pixels on each side, and match the video aspect ratio. The service decodes the poster to confirm visible transparent content; changing the filename is not sufficient. Preparation freezes the chosen parameters and poster. Review the delivered loop against light, dark and checkerboard surfaces before saving the version. A failed preparation does not run another AI background-removal pass. Standard optimization has a bounded allowance of 30 requests per account per 30 days.

Pick publishing allowance separately from AI processing

Transparent Video Publish is a one-time $6.99 option for one existing transparent clip up to 15 seconds. It includes standard preparation, a WebM download, poster, stable embed, basic diagnostics and 12 months of hosting that starts when you publish. A Creator Pack can instead spend one video credit on the imported asset without using AI processing seconds. Creator monthly can publish imported clips up to 30 seconds within its hosting allowance: an imported asset occupies space for one video online when published, and its preparation does not consume the monthly AI-second balance. These options do not make processing, optimization or hosting unlimited. Compare the current checkout terms before paying.

Install the player once and test the published page

After saving the approved result, explicitly enable hosting. Workspace provides HTML, Webflow and Framer recipes with your real public asset ID. The player installation and asset element are separate so several visuals in the same document can share one script. For Webflow, install the player in footer custom code and place the asset element in a Code Embed. For Framer, place the complete snippet inside the relevant HTML Embed document and set the component dimensions at each breakpoint. A visual inside an embedded document cannot escape its clipping boundary. The layout preview is useful for positioning, but your final published URL is the acceptance surface.

Use browser-aware delivery rather than assuming raw MOV playback

An editing master and a website asset serve different jobs. AlphaPublish packages the master and serves browser-aware hosted media behind the stable embed, with a transparent poster while animation is not ready or cannot run. Do not distribute a ProRes MOV as if every browser supports its codec and alpha behavior. Test the actual page in the desktop and mobile browsers your visitors use. Check muted autoplay, reduced motion, the fallback poster, slower connections, an off-screen visual returning into view, and repeated page navigation. The checker reports properties; your destination page supplies the evidence about layout and playback in that environment.

Replace content without changing the integration

Keep the public asset ID when a campaign or product animation changes. Import the new transparent master as a replacement, prepare its delivery and review the candidate before accepting it. The approved version switches the active manifest; a failed or canceled candidate leaves the previous active version in place. Replacing a version does not extend its hosting date. A basic one-time asset keeps its current version, while eligible Creator history provides a limited rollback window. Display presets saved in Workspace belong to the asset, so a replacement does not discard them. Editing the composition itself remains a job for your original creative tool.

Plan retention and renewal before handing the page to a client

Source imports and uploaded poster originals are scheduled for deletion after 24 hours. Prepared private results have a separate seven-day window shown in the interface. Download a copy or publish before that window ends. Published hosting has its own term: prepaid hosting takes priority over a monthly slot, and a subscription does not erase your independent Pack or purchased credits. After hosting expires, a 30-day grace period is followed by suspension. Media remains available for download or restoration for 30 additional days, then is deleted. Renew before the retention deadline in Workspace to restore the same embed. A stable ID is not a promise of perpetual storage.

Diagnose a rectangle, invisible subject or missing resource

First separate the source, prepared master and hosted asset. If the source report is opaque, inspect the export settings and remove solid background layers before exporting again. If the result is entirely invisible, confirm that the subject and its alpha are present throughout the intended loop. If the prepared master is correct but the website is not, check the published container dimensions, parent overflow, layer order and script installation. Use Workspace basic diagnostics to inspect manifest, poster, media and version state. A successful resource check does not prove a remote page rendered the animation; include the public page URL and browser when reporting an integration failure.

Frequently asked questions

Does importing alpha remove the background again?

No. This path checks existing transparency and prepares it for delivery. Use the normal video path when you need AI background removal.

Can I import ProRes 422 or an opaque MOV?

The existing-alpha MOV path requires supported ProRes 4444 transparency. Re-export the transparent master or use the normal video background-removal path.

Do I have to sign in to check a file?

No. Sign in to save the report, prepare a version or purchase publishing. Anonymous upload access is temporary and private.

Does the report prove Safari or iPhone playback?

No. It reports measured media properties and delivery rules. Test the actual hosted embed on your destination page and devices.

Will importing consume Creator AI seconds?

No. Imported alpha preparation does not consume AI background-removal seconds. Publishing uses the applicable video credit or your monthly plan.
